Brief Resort Overview: Bad Gastein is located in the heart of the Alps at an attitude of 1000m 150m SE of Munich in the Salzburg province of Austria.
The ski resort has it origins as a thermal spa center which was at its heyday around the turn of the 19th-century.
Many of the hotels date from the Belle Epoque era and have beautiful high ceilings and chandeliers.
The skiing is spread out over several areas including Glacier skiing in the Sport Gastein area.
The resort has several hot springs including a natural thermal pool and a hot steam cave which is heated by natural thermal energy.
The skiing is plentiful for all type of skiers and is split between two mountains. For advanced and intermediate skiers the Titlis area is perfect
with steep marked runs and excellent off-piste on the Laub. The mountain has breathtaking views, glacier skiing at the summit and a 2000 m vertical drop.
For beginners and families Brünni, on the other side of the valley, is ideal with some easy runs.
Principal advantages of the resort: Affordable semi-luxurious belle époque spa hotels. If your hotel doesn't have a natural hot water thermal pool you will not have to go far to find one. During the night the Victorian buildings seem enchanted almost coming to life making for a mesmerizing trip to yesteryear. The on mountain dining is tasty, hearty and affordable. The skiing is excellent, diverse, and has lots of in-bounds and out-of-bounds powder terrain. The town is near enough to Salzburg to make a convenient day trip by train.
